Mural Celebration

Screen Shot 2020-10-08 at 7.54.38 AM.png

After several postponements due to poor air quality, we decided to sit down with artist Sami See for a virtual dialogue on the mural that is now proudly displayed on Bindlestiff’s windows. We wanted to honor the love and energy placed on this endeavor; from all the individual donors, funders, and social media supporters. We also wanted to highlight and uplift the hands that made it all happen: lead muralist Sami See, Mary Clare Amable, and Jerry Macalino, along with documentation by Chelsea Calalay.

Join us for an evening of celebration and reflection. Julie Kuwabara will lead a conversation with artist Sami See. Opening ceremony led by Sammay Dizon and featuring photographs by Chelsea Calalay.

*All donations will benefit the development of the book, KATATAGAN : Endurance Filipino American Theater Artists in the Bay Area

Synopsis:
Post 9/11 in a conglomerate’s secret room, a paper shredder, Ona, lures her brother Ian, to visit -- the “roots” -- the Philippines. Familia Wizard of Oz icons double their roles and affect Ona’s escape from her own cage. The play parodies the chaotic moment in history of falling buildings and dwindling confidence in leadership where opportunists cover their tracks and ‘munchkins’ demonstrate resilience.
