Stories High is Bindlestiff Studio’s longest running annual production, now in its 21st cycle. Our page-to-stage theater workshop series runs from the spring/summer and culminates with a fall production. All experience levels are welcome to join. Learn about playwriting, acting and directing from award-winning artists. Each workshop meets weekly for 8 weeks.

Playwriting with COnrad PanganiBan
Learn the fundamentals of playwriting with Bindlestiff Studio's resident artist, Conrad Panganiban. Understand the structure of a play, characters, plot, dialogue, etc through a collaborative workshop setting. This workshop meets virtually for 8 weeks to help you craft your 10-minute play. All levels are welcome.

About the facilitator:
Conrad A. Panganiban is a Filipino American playwright representing the San Francisco Bay Area. His plays include WELGA, ESPERANZA MEANS HOPE, INAY'S WEDDING DRESS, and RIVER'S MESSAGE. Conrad’s work has been produced and/or developed by Bindlestiff Studio (San Francisco, CA), CIRCA Pintig (Chicago, IL), MaArte Theatre Collective (San Diego, CA), Theatre NOVA (Ann Arbor, MI), the Sinag-tala Filipino Theatrical Performing Arts Association (Sacramento, CA), San Francisco Playhouse, and the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) (Quezon City, Philippines). He is also a co-screenwriter (with Drew Stephens and Emmanuel Romero) for the Award-Winning Short Film, PRINSESA. Playwriting honors include the James Milton Highsmith Award Winner (SFSU), National Ten-Minute Play Festival Finalist (Actors Theatre of Louisville), and Bay Area Playwrights Festival Semi-Finalist (Playwrights Foundation). Acting With Rinabeth Apostol
Acting is more than just memorizing lines! In this 8-week acting workshop you will learn how to combine both onstage and on-camera acting techniques with a web/zoom performance focus. Together, we'll work on character creation, scene study, script analysis and so much more with critically acclaimed Bay Area artist, Rinabeth Apostol.

About the facilitator:
Rinabeth Apostol is an award-winning actor, educator, director and activist. She has appeared in theaters across the U.S., including ACT, Actors Theater of Louisville, Seattle Rep, TheatreWorks, CalShakes, The Magic, Arizona Theater Company, East West Players and Skirball Center for the Arts, among others. Her offstage work ranges from guest star roles to independent films, commercials, web series, voice over and motion capture. Rinabeth is also a regular guest lecturer for high schools, colleges & universities where she facilitates “Intro to the Industry” Q&A sessions for BIPOC students interested in a future in entertainment as well as lectures on Race & Gender Inequity in the Arts & Media.
Directing With Li-Leng Au
Learn about the role of the director in theater in this workshop facilitated by Li-Leng Au. The workshop will go over the basics of directing in theater and will also touch on virtual theater to prepare future directors for the Stories High XXI festival in the fall.

About the facilitator:
Li-Leng has been working in theatre for over 20 years both on and off the stage. She has worked internationally in venues from The National Theatre in London and the equivalent in Australia, the Melbourne Theatre Company, to ancient castles in the UK and town squares in Poland. As a director, devisor, collaborator and an actor Li-Leng founded Fine Line Theatre Collective in Sydney with a group of similarly trained performers, their first piece Walk Me! won a Sydney Fringe Theatre Award and went on to be studied by Drama teachers across Sydney and NSW. Li-Leng most recently worked as the movement director on Maria Isabella for Bindlestiff’s Tagalog Festival. She believes a director’s role should be to inspire, support and help their actors flourish, whilst creating powerful, life changing and innovative theatre.
